HFP receives $20,000 grant

Arnold Ventures has awarded a $20,000 grant to Humanity for Prisoners. The announcement was made by Joe Whalen, HFP’s Mission and Advancement Director.

Founded in 2008 by Laura and John Arnold with the launch of a foundation, the philanthropy is dedicated to improving the lives of all Americans through evidence-based policy solutions that maximize opportunity and minimize injustice. Arnold Adventures has a team of more than 100 subject-matter experts headquartered in Houston with offices in New York and Washington, D.C.

HFP’s allocation will go towards operational costs.

The grant was approved by the Criminal Justice team at Arnold Ventures. This team supports research and policy to reduce crime and put those who interact with the criminal justice system on a better path. A statement from the foundation states that they “partner with leaders in and outside government to prevent and deter crime, provide accountability in an effective and fair manner, increase opportunities to reduce recidivism and break the incarceration cycle, and facilitate more rigorous research on what works.”

Whalen said the grant will make a positive contribution in the pursuit of HFP’s mission: advocating for those who feel forgotten by offering one-on-one guidance and compassionate support to people in Michigan’s prisons.

Humanity for Prisoners, based in Spring Lake, was founded 25 years ago by former Grand Haven broadcaster Doug Tjapkes.
